The exhibition presents multiple thirty-five décollages on the Grand Cinema made by Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006).
protagonist in the international art of our century, Mimmo Rotella joined in 1961 at the invitation of the critic Pierre Restany, New Realism of the group which includes, among others, Klein, Tinguely, César, Spoerri, Arman and Christo. At the time of the sweet life
Roman wheel begins its work of exploring the world of images as an expression of society in terms of consumption, attitudes, hopes and dreams. From the mid-fifties, the artist steals and rips advertising posters from the road and then paste them on the canvas and rip it again. His favorite subjects are the billboards promoting the stars and the big titles of films, which contain myths and dreams of entire generations.
The exhibition hosted by the Visconti Castle of Pavia has a show dedicated to the movie theater where the actors and the Cult Film mythologized one another in a journey through time. Among those on display are Gone With The Wind, Gilda, The River of No Return, Batman, Diabolik, Casablanca, To Catch a Thief, The Giant, Bus Stop, Some Like It Hot, The Blue Angel, The Asphalt Jungle and many others.
The works, made by the artist in last years of his activities are carried out individually décollage, collected edition, sequentially numbered and signed by the artist. The technique is based on printing a poster on a base of support and the subsequent application of another poster, stacked and glued to make it feasible to pull the hand of the master, who spoke personally on the run.
Each sample then, while responding to the concept of multiple, is treated as a unique original, fits perfectly in the overall sense of the work of Wheeler.
